Netflix’s Hashmukh Lands In Legal Trouble Over Objectionable Portrayal Of Lawyers

Just when we thought that Netflix had not courted any troubles recently, here comes the news of its problem with a court. And ironically, it involves the lawyer and their presentation in the Netflix Original series Hasmukh.

Getting into details, Hashmukh starring Vir Dad and Ranveer Shorey in critical roles has some scenes depicting lawyers in poor light. It refers to them as goons, rowdies, thieves, and rapists. The dialogues and casual disdain with which it is done has irked lawyers from New Delhi.

Two lawyers, Abhishek Bharadwaj and Hardik Vashisth, have sent a legal notice to Netflix for the outrageous depiction of the people in their profession. They have asked the scenes to be deleted with immediate effect referring to them as scandalous.

Hasmukh is a dark comedy web series that is co-written by Vir Das. The show features Vir Das in the titular role, playing a stand-up comedian. The catch here is that he could continue his act going only by killing. The premise itself is twisted and involves crime. The show having such words on lawyers doesn’t come as a surprise. We have to see if Netflix responds to the charges and fixes the issue. In the past, the streaming giant has faced several controversies on a much larger scale with its shows, Sacred Games and Leila.
