Netflix has dropped the teaser for its upcoming original series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ by Anubhav Sinha and this limited series based on true events looks enthralling. ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix on 29th August, 2024.
In the teaser video launched today, an Indian airline flight headed for Delhi gets hijacked by a group of terrorists who are brutal and do not hesitate even a bit in stabbing, shooting or harming the passengers in any way possible if they go against them. While the government wants to deal with the situation within the country, the terrorists have something else planned and take the flight towards Kandahar.
The whole teaser set in a vintage environment has that much needed life threatening urgency vibe, making it a gripping watch and keeping the viewers on the edge throughout.
On 24 December 1999, Indian Airlines flight IC 814, en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi, was hijacked and taken to Kandahar in Taliban-governed Afghanistan. The hijack lasted seven days; while passengers and crew suffered, some great officers back home struggled to answer the ‘who’ and ‘why’ – answers that were beyond the obvious and extremely complex. But the people had to be brought back home safely. The clock was ticking as the negotiations forged through; ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ follows the story of those seven days which became the longest hijack in Indian history.
‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ is directed by Anubhav Sinha (‘Mulk’, ‘Thappad’, ‘Article 15’, ‘Ra.One’) who has co-created and co-written the series with Trishant Srivastava with a story by Srivastava and Adrien Levy.
‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ stars an ensemble cast of Vijay Verma, Patralekhaa, Pankaj Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Arvind Swami, Dia Mirza, Amrita Puri, Anupam Tripathi, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Kanwaljeet Singh, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sushant Singh, Aditya Srivastava, Rajeev Thakur, and Yashpal Sharma.
A Matchbox Shots and Benaras Mediaworks production, ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ is produced by Sarita Patil and Sanjay Routray and will launch globally on Netflix on 29th August, 2024.
