To win is indeed a big deal but even getting a nomination is a click worthy thing. Looks like Netflix is actively acquiring titles that can enrich their library. Well, we have another addition to the same. Netflix has added the Oscar-nominated documentary “To Kill a Tiger.” This powerful film, which first wowed audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022 and later earned the title of Best Documentary at the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Festival, tells the gripping story of Ranjit, a farmer from rural India’s Jharkhand region. Ranjit’s world is shattered when his 13-year-old daughter falls victim to a horrific gang rape, prompting him to embark on a quest for justice that reverberates far and wide.
Even after being such a good film, “To Kill a Tiger” had been struggling to find a distributor despite its critical acclaim and prestigious Oscar nomination. However, Netflix’s acquisition will be of some help.
“To Kill a Tiger” is an Indian story and we hope that it manages to win the award. Last year, The Elephant Whisperers grabbed the Oscar and it was a big boost to the way people perceive documentaries in India.
Not only that, the documentary has some big names attached to it. Dev Patel and Mindy Kaling were already the executive producers of the film. But, our own Priyanka Chopra Jonas has also joined the list as an executive producer. She joined as soon as Netflix acquired it. This makes her second production to be nominated in Oscars after The White Tiger.
Let’s see if the film wins the Oscar, but we are certainly gonna see it on Netflix.
