“Kaali Khuhi” is around the corner to be released on Netflix. A Netflix original, is to be released on the 30th of October. India’s very own Halloween treat, this one will be. But the story is far more than lighthearted or with small jumpscares. This one will be a full package of drama, darkness and otherworldly things.
The story follows the dark and deep side of female infanticide and foeticide. A dark truth and reality which sadly is still practiced in various small parts of the country. The story follows the journey of a small 10 year old girl who along with her parents, visit her grandmother in a village in Punjab. The village has an age old tradition of killing and being done with female unborn child. This dark past lingers up and reaches little Shivangi, who as soon as entering the village, starts experiencing things that cannot be explained in true sense. She is shown to be scared and shivering, while her parents are confused. The interesting thing to notice here is the demeanor of the grandmother. She is scared for sure but she knows something evil is on its way for all the dark things this village and its people has committed.
10 year old Shivangi takes it upon herself along with her imaginary “friend” who only she is able to see as for now to save her family and to bring them out of that blackhole. But no matter how much she tries, they get pushed back even further.
Kaali Khuhi shows a very important social issue, it is well mixed with a dark side to give it something that can scare people off from this. Starring, Shabana Azmi, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Riva Arora, Leela Samson, Satyadip Mishra, the movie is directed by Terrie Samundra. For Terrie, this will be her directorial debut in this field. Earlier she has been part and directors for plays and short films.
It an already power packed trailer, this movie surely does give us the creep. With a very sensitive social topic in place and mixed with horror, drama and thriller. It will be interesting to see how much justice will it be able to do.
