Netflix gets back into the Malayalam direct-to-OTT releasing space with an investigative thriller titled ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum‘. This Asif Ali, Sunny Wayne starrer is expected to release in two weeks, during the beginning of the Independence Day-Weekend. In a space where Amazon Prime Video, Neestream and even ManoramaMAX was doing well, it is good that Malayalam filmmakers haven’t limited themselves to release in these above mentioned OTT platforms only (not counting Netflix).
Netflix has only released one other direct-to-OTT Malayalam film, be it this year or ever – the Fahadh Faasil starring ‘Irul’. The movie didn’t do as well it was expected to do on the platform and it looked like direct-to-OTT released Malayalam films wouldn’t stream on Netflix for a very long time. However, with the success of other Malayalam films like ‘Nayattu’ and ‘Love’ among others on the streaming platform, it made sense for Netflix to try again. And we are glad that they did.
So far, nothing much has been given in detail about this upcoming thriller feature, nor has any promotional video been released (trailer, teaser, etc.). Here is the bare minimum that we know about this upcoming movie. The title ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ means “Crime and Judgement”. As far as we know, Asif Ali will be the film lead where he will be playing the Circle Inspector of Police of a locality. Taking up charge right after a traumatic experience, Asif’s character quickly gets a case worth investigating. The movie is expected to take us to various different locations – from the lush green mountains of Idukki to the dry arid desert dunes of Northern India.
The Asif Ali – Sunny Wayne starrer, ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’, is set to premiere on Netflix on 13th August 2021, during the Independence Day Weekend.
