Netflix’s Live-Action ‘My Hero Academia’ Adaptation Gets A Big Update

Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of the hit anime series ‘My Hero Academia’ about a year ago. In a recent year with Collider, the project’s producer, Joby Harold, revealed that the project was already in the works. Though, he did not disclose any details about the adaptation’s plot points or release window. But the project is happening. That’s for sure.

Joby Harold has worked on Apple’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as an executive producer. During his interview with Collider, this is what he replied upon being asked about the live-action adaptation of ‘My Hero Academia’:

“Absolutely. It is something I’m working on and loving working on. I’m excited to do it and get it out there. It’s a big one.”

Harold was also asked about what version of the prominent shonen fans will witness on Netflix: “I can speak to the fact that it is live-action, and I think that’s probably all I can speak to, but it’s a big deal in my life. I’m really enjoying it… It’s amazing. It’s an amazing opportunity, and I’m really excited about it.”

Apart from Netflix, Legendary Entertainment is also bankrolling the adaptation. On IMDb, Kôhei Horikoshi has been credited as the project’s writer along with Harold. Additionally, Shinsuke Sato has been mentioned as the director.

Harold has also worked on other popular Hollywood flicks as a writer, such as King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), Army of the Dead (2021), Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023), and The Flash (2023).

Netflix’s live-action ‘My Hero Academia’ film will be the fourth feature project based on the iconic anime series. Before this, we have received My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018), My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising (2019), and My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission (2021).

Published by Shueisha, the My Hero Academia manga series first came out in July 2014 and soon became one of the best-selling mangas of all time. Let’s see if Netflix does complete justice to its live-action adaptation or not. Stay tuned for more updates.
