Netflix was in the news as it revealed that a brand new movie was being made on the classic “Matilda”. This time, the movie was decided to be a musical release on Netflix. The movie already had to find actors for some of the major characters. Now the news is that there is a brand new addition in the cast and it is getting all the more grand and exciting. Andrea Riseborough and Stephen Graham have been roped in to play the role of Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, Matilda’s “horrible” parents.
Besides Andrea Riseborough and Stephen Graham, Indian comedian Sindhu Vee is also on board to play the role of Mrs. Phelps, the librarian. Their latest addition is set to join Emma Thompson, who plays the evil principal Miss. Trunchbull, Lashana Lynch, who plays the kind and lovable Miss Honey and newcomer Alisha Weir, who is all set to portray the iconic Matilda.
The movie is based on the classic Roald Dahl tale, that tells the story of a gifted girl named “Matilda”. She uses her powers to help her friends and herself overcome the bullies in her life that includes Miss. Trunchbull and also her parents. The story was earlier made into a movie and released in 1996 and both the story and the movie today remains as a classic.
The musical adaptation is based on the Tony and Olivier award winning musical titled “Matilda The Musical” by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The movie is being helmed by director Mathew Warchus, while Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, Jon Finn, and Luke Kelly of The Roald Dahl Story Company produces the movie.
While Netflix releases the movie internationally, it won’t be doing the same for the UK. TriStar Pictures partnered up with Netflix to release the movie theatrically in the UK.
