Netflix’s New Slate Of Films Clearly Says, “Netflix; NOT For All”

Yesterday, Netflix India announced or gave updates on 8 new films. With so many new films coming, one may wonder about the diversity the platform might be bringing in.

No doubt, some films are extremely promising and they look interesting but it is funny how the platform overlooked such an important thing.

We are talking about the inclusion of South Indian languages. While we talk only about South Indian languages, we agree that all the linguistic groups must get representation but the reason we are talking specifically about South Indian languages is simple.

They have performed extraordinarily well on various OTT platforms and their complete exclusion from the slate is beyond understanding.

Not only in India, but globally too, RRR is one of the most successful films on Netflix. Although they grabbed rights to only the Hindi audio, it is still a Telugu film.

Shyam Singha Roy, Don, Kurup, Minnal Murali, and numerous more are exceptional examples of highly successful films on Netflix.

Also, the Hindi-speaking audience loves South Indian movies dubbed in Hindi. They can always do it and those movies would get celebrated all across the nation.

This is surprising and problematic at the same time. Netflix can’t justify its tagline of “Netflix for all” by ignoring languages that are spoken by so many people.

We hope that they invest and make movies for every linguistic group in India.
