Netflix’s well-received comedy drama “Russian Doll” is finally getting on with Season 2. The “Groundhog Day” style comedy, created and headlined by Natasha Lyonne, first premiered on Netflix in February 2019. Fans have been waiting breathlessly for news of a Season 2 of the series, which is now confirmed to be in the works. In fact, production on Russian Doll Season 2 kicked off very recently.
Not only that, the upcoming Russian Doll Season 2 on Netflix has made its first new cast announcement. The show has signed on Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek fame for the new season. It’s still not known what role Murphy will play in Russian Doll 2.
Natasha Lyonne wrote, directed and starred in Russian Doll Season 1. She played a coder Nadia Vulvokov in the series, who is caught in a Groundhog Day-like time loop when she keeps dying and coming back to life right on the day of her 36th birthday. The dark comedy is executive produced by Amy Poehler. Russian Doll was an unqualified hit for Netflix.
Annie Murphy starred as Alexis Rose in the hit TV show Schitt’s Creek. She earned an Emmy Award for her performance as Alexis, along with a clutch of nominations for it – four Canadian Screen Awards noms, three Screen Actors Guild Awards noms, two Critics’ Choice Television Awards noms, and one Golden Globe Awards nom.
