Netflix just dropped in the teaser for Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Serious Men’. The film directed by Sudhir Mishra is based on Manu Joseph’s debut novel of the same name. The teaser is in the form of a motion poster that also reveals the release date of the film as 2nd October, 2020.
The 30 second teaser released by Netflix shows an animated skyline with drawings of high-rise buildings of Mumbai. Nawazuddin narrates how wealthy serious people reside in these buildings who find seriousness even in the simplest of matters like relevance of dots on a condom. He says he aspires to make his son Aadi like them because whether or not people understand these men but surely applaud and salute them.
Serious Men follows the story of Ayyan Mani, a wily dalit man living in a slum, who tricks the country into believing that his dim-witted 10-year old son is a genius. However, he eventually realises that the only one he is truly hurting with his con is his own son. The story is about a poor father navigating through his professional as well as personal life in the chaos of Mumbai. It is a story of class and gender conflict.
Serious Men is produced by Bombay Fables and Cineraas Entertainment. Serious Men is Siddiqui’s second project with Netflix after Sacred Games. It will premiere on Netflix on 2nd October, 2020.
