After enduring several delays, creator Neil Gaiman has provided an exciting update on Netflix’s The Sandman Season 2.
As per Gaiman’s interview on ‘What’s On Netflix’, the creator revealed that the shoot for Season 2 will resume on November 27. The filming for the sophomore entry stopped in early July due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Sandman got renewed for a second season in November last year. The makers filmed Season 2 for three weeks in June 2023 before stopping their work due to the actors’ strike.
However, Netflix is not promoting the upcoming episodes as part of Season 2. Instead, the streaming giant has referred to the show’s continuation as part of its expansion efforts. It means the next instalment could serve as the second part of Season 1. Furthermore, it could have fewer episodes than the first entry, which had 11 episodes.
Season 1 was based on the first two volumes of Neil Gaiman’s comics. So, we should expect the next two volumes to get adapted in Season 2. The original comic book series (1989-96) has 75 issues. In addition, the second instalment may have new characters like Wanda, Destiny, Destruction, and Delirium.
Developed by the trio of Neil Gaiman, Allan Heinberg, and David S. Goyer, The Sandman live-action series debuted on Netflix in August last year. It starred Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, and many more talents. Season 2 may come out in 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
