Netflix’s adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has finally received a premiere date. The upcoming project from director Chris Columbus will be released on August 28 on the streaming platform. It stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley. The source material comes from renowned author Richard Osman.
Adapted for the screen by the duo of Suzanne Heathcote and Katy Brand, The Thursday Murder Club centers on four spirited retirees — Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie) — who enjoy investigating unsolved murders as a hobby. Their leisurely pursuit takes an exciting turn when a mysterious death occurs close to home, thrusting them into a genuine and captivating whodunit.
Alongside the leading cast, the project also features talents such as Daniel Mays, Naomi Ackie, Jonathan Pryce, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Geoff Bell, Paul Freeman, Ingrid Oliver, and Richard E. Grant. The film is a product of the deal between Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Netflix.
Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus served as producers on the movie, with Jo Burn also producing. Executive producers include Richard Osman, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody.
Chris Columbus is best known for his work on the first two Home Alone movies and the first two Harry Potter films: The Philosopher’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets.
The movie began filming on June 27, 2024, and wrapped production on September 11, 2024.
