When Apharan: Sabka Katega debuted on Alt Balaji three years ago, it blew digital viewers with its dark comedy and inventive screenplay. It was a crime thriller, action drama, murder mystery and dark comedy all rolled into one. It was equal parts dark, edgy, funny, unpredictable, and yes, unusual. Now, from the same team as that electrifying show comes up a new show for Netflix – titled ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein‘. And just like that show, the upcoming Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein promises to be a “mind-bending, psychological thriller”, as described by lead, Shweta Tripathi Sharma.
Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein has a rather unusual premise. A dreaded gangster’s daughter (Anchal Singh) falls in love with a man (Tahir Raj Bhasin) who doesn’t love her back. He in fact loves someone else (Shweta Tripathi Sharma). The inimitable Saurabh Shukla plays the gangster, btw. What follows is a dark comedy with umpteen twists and turns, crazy capers and hilarious howlers.
The official Netflix log line for Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein adds to the intrigue and anticipation –
“Think of the most dreaded villain! What if he has a daughter who truly, deeply, madly falls in love with you? What if you don’t love her back? What if you are in love with someone else? How will you say no and get out of the situation? After all, quite like her father, she’s not likely to take ‘no’ for an answer. A romantic simpleton finds himself in the middle of this crossfire in Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, a dark comical pulpy desi thriller about three things that matter the most in the country – paisa, taqat aur pyaar!!!”
Well, sounds like Netflix subscribers are in for an exhilarating ride with Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein. Sidharth Sengupta, who also directed Apharan, is directing the show, as also producing it under his label, Edgestorm Pictures.
What’s icing on the cake is that Varun Badola serves as the co-writer of the series, along with Sidharth Sengupta and Anahata Menon. The last time Badola wrote something for the OTT space, it was a crackerjack of a show. We’re talking of Apharan, of course. The dialogues in that one, written by Varun Badola, were by turns funny, offbeat, catchy and particularly inventive – in other words, brilliant!
Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein will most certainly be a super fun show for Netflix – take our word for it. The crew, after all, is stellar. And the cast is stunning. The series stars Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Anchal Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Surya Sharma, Brijendra Kala, Arunoday Singh, Anant Joshi, Sunita Rajwar, and Hetal Gada in pivotal roles.
