New OTT Subscribers Count Out! The Champion Remains Unmoved

Ampere Analysis, a third-party website, conducted a study in the first quarter of 2023 and came across some astonishing facts. We finally have the subscriber count of Disney+Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix India. Keep in mind that there can be some minor changes from the original figure as it has been calculated through a third-party firm and not the platforms themselves.

But we can get a rough idea nonetheless.

So let’s see what number these platforms hold out of 171 Million OTT subscribers in India.

Disney+Hotstar – 50 Million
The champion remains the champion. The streaming giant has been reigning in the Indian OTT industry for many years, and it continues to do so.

The loss of HBO content, IPL streaming rights, and F1 Racing seems to have stopped the growth, as it should have crossed 61 Million subscribers. However, there is absolutely no competition in terms of subscriber count when it comes to Disney+Hotstar. The platform still holds 29% of the market despite a decline of 11 million subscribers from October 2022.

Amazon Prime Video – 12.4 Million
Amazon Prime Video is second only to Hotstar but has a massive difference in actual numbers. Hotstar has around four times more subscribers in comparison. Prime Video has one of the most popular shows and films streaming in India, but it lacks behind Hotstar in terms of aggressive reach amongst people.

Netflix India – 6.2 Million
Netflix seems to have improved its overall quality with shows like Trial By Fire and Scoop. But, their reach amongst Indian people is just too less. Despite hosting some of the biggest international shows and films, the platform struggles in terms of reaching people. We hope it touches at least 10 million subscribers in India.
