Sony has dropped a new trailer of Gran Turismo, and it looks solid. Compared to the previous trailer, the latest clip leans more towards the film’s explosiveness and emotional side. Developed by Polyphony Digital, Gran Turismo is one of the most popular racing video game franchises of all time. It is also the top-selling video game franchise under the PlayStation brand.
The forthcoming Sony feature is based on the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough, the youngest winner in the history of the Nissan-sponsored GT Academy competition. The now-defunct GT Academy tv series (2008-16) offered talented Gran Turismo players an opportunity to create their real-life professional racing careers with Nissan.
The film will also cover Jann’s accident in 2015. His car, Nissan GT-R Nismo, caught air and cartwheeled over the fence. Mardenborough suffered heavy injuries; one person was killed in that horrible accident.
Archie Madekwe plays the on-screen version of Mardenborough in the film. Alongside him, viewers will see David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Djimon Hounsou, and other talents.
Helmed by Neill Blomkamp, Sony’s Gran Turismo will come out in theatres globally on August 11. Lorne Balfe has provided the film’s score. Stay tuned for more updates.
