New Spanish Crime Thriller Is Netflix’s Latest Hit Series!

Every once in a while, streaming behemoth Netflix throws up a compelling piece of non-English content that hits the right chords with viewers. Korean series ‘Squid Game’ and the universal love it received are still fresh in our minds. Now, another non-English show on Netflix is capturing the attention of viewers across the world – from Germany to Japan, from Brazil to France, from New Zealand to the Netherlands.

The show that’s won a place in audiences’ hearts and on the Netflix Top Ten is none other than Spanish crime thriller ‘Wrong Side Of The Tracks’. Shot primarily in Madrid, Spain, the series is a gripping thriller with lots of action, drama and emotion to appease a wide variety of viewing appetites.

‘Wrong Side of the Tracks’, aka ‘Entrevías’ in Spanish, is centred on retired military man, Tirso Abantos (José Coronado). The army veteran runs a hardware store to pass his time, while ruing the deteriorating law and order and moral depravity in his locality. Soon he discovers that his own granddaughter, Irene (Nona Sobo), is caught in a messy situation with dangerous local drug dealers, because of her delinquent boyfriend.

As things come to a head, the plucky army veteran decides to take matters into his own hands. Here’s the synopsis of Wrong Side Of The Tracks –
“An angry war veteran who hates the drug dealers infiltrating his neighborhood sets out to reform his teen granddaughter, who’s being led astray by them”.

‘Wrong Side Of The Tracks’ hit Netflix on May 20. It’s been on the Netflix Top Ten in over 70 countries ever since, trending at Number One in Non-English series in most of these countries. Surprisingly, the series hasn’t found much favour in India, even though the story and treatment of the series is just what Indian viewers like. Eight episodes of Wrong Side Of The Tracks Season 1 are out on Netflix. Season 2 will debut on the platform in due course.
