New ‘Top Gun’ Sequel Has A ‘Terrific Story’, But When Will It Begin Filming?

Few producers in Hollywood can boast about a résumé that includes the franchises of ‘Top Gun’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, and ‘Bad Boys’. American film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, however, is one of the rare few. After five-plus decades of filmmaking, the producer continues to break his own records.

His latest film, ‘Young Woman and the Sea’, directed by Joachim Rønning and starring Daisy Ridley as Trudy Ederle, the competitive swimmer who, in 1926, became the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel, has received impeccable reviews from critics.

Back in 2022, the trio consisting of Bruckheimer, Tom Cruise, the recipient of an honorary Palme d’Or, and director Joseph Kosinski, made the highest-grossing film of their respective careers, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. 36 years after ‘Top Gun’ became a cultural phenomenon, Cruise reprised one of his most iconic roles, Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, and to gigantic heights!

It was a no-brainer that the film that grossed $1.49 billion at the worldwide box office would get a sequel.

While Cruise’s return is confirmed for the confirmed upcoming sequel, Bruckheimer expressed the challenges of making ‘Top Gun 3’ with the megastar’s busy schedule. Although he stated that the writers have a terrific story ready, the timeline for the feature is still uncertain.

Moreover, since Cruise, 61, continues to be one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, Bruckheimer highlighted the importance of a good screenplay for the anticipated sequel to begin filming.
