Nicholas Hoult will have the vintage and comic-accurate Lex Luthor look in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. For those of you wondering whether the X-Men actor will have long hair in Gunn’s next project like poor Jesse Eisenberg did in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), you can take a huge sigh of relief.
In the comics, Man of Steel’s archnemesis has been depicted as a bald and psychotic supervillain with a genius-level intellect. We should expect something like this from Hoult’s Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy.
While replying to his fans on Instagram, James Gunn disclosed that Hoult would have the classic Lex Luthor look in his next project. A fan asked whether the actor would be bald in the film, to which Gunn replied, “Of f***ing course.”
Apart from being bald like his previous representations, Lex Luthor will also be different in terms of personality, according to James Gunn. The helmer aims to create a memorable Lex that is also different from anything fans have ever watched. We do not have plot details about Superman: Legacy. It will be interesting to see how Gunn makes Hoult’s Luthor different from previous adaptations.
Gene Hackman first brought Lex Luthor to the big screen in Richard Donner’s Superman (1978). After Hackman, Kevin Spacey carried the baton in Superman Returns (2006). Then, we watched Jesse Eisenberg playing the iconic DC character in BvS, Justice League (2017), and Snyder’s Cut of Justice League (2021). Eisenberg loses his long hair during BvS’ final moments.
Led by David Coreswet and Rachel Brosnahan, Superman: Legacy will be James Gunn’s seventh directional feature. It will hit the theatres worldwide on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
