Academy award-winning Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman had essayed the important role of Atlanna – Aquaman’s (played by Jason Momoa) mother and the Queen of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. ‘Aquaman’ was her second DC Comics movie after the 1995 superhero film ‘Batman Forever’.
And now, as per the latest buzz, ‘The Others’ actress is set to reportedly reprise her role in 2018 film’s sequel titled ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, or simply ‘Aquaman 2’. If the report is to be believed, then Nicole Kidman will join the original cast members including Amber Heard (as Mera), Patrick Wilson (as Aquaman’s half-brother), Dolph Lundgren (as King Nereus), and, of course, Jason Momoa (as the titular superhero Aquaman / Arthur Curry).
Nicole Kidman’s speculated casting news was ostensibly based on several reports by Hong Kong-based media outlets which purportedly disclosed that the actress was supposed to travel to the United Kingdom for the filming of a DC film. Although, the casting news remains to be officially confirmed by the makers and Kidman herself.
Kidman’s casting in ‘Aquaman’ sequel makes sense considering her star power and the fact that in the original film, her character, who was believed to be dead for twenty years, appeared towards the film’s climactic reels. Whether it will be going to be a full-blown role for Kidman or just a fleeting cameo can only be known after the film’s release. Nicole Kidman’s acting credits include ‘The Hours’, ‘Eyes Wide Shut’, ‘Moulin Rogue!’ and the more recent films ‘Lion’ and ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’.
Directed by James Wan, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ aka ‘Aquaman 2’ is currently slated for a theatrical release by Warner Bros. on 16th December 2022.
