Nielsen ratings started out as a service focusing only on Netflix’s viewing numbers whether it is based on current viewing, content-shifting or other viewing statistic. It is now considered to be one of the best rankings/ratings systems for OTT statistics globally. They had added Amazon Prime Video to their list last year, and now have started adding Disney+ and Hulu as well.
This week’s top 10 Nielsen’s rankings are out and all 10 spots have been taken up by Netflix content; making the world’s largest subscription service to have the most watched content around the globe. Of course, due to the recent additions of Hulu and Disney+, Nielsen haven’t had a chance to count the desired statistics, for them to make the list. Nielsen rankings are based on the number of minutes consumers have access to platforms, during each week (or month or year depending on the ranking/rating/chart). So it’s no wonder even Disney+ content haven’t had a chance to displace a single Netflix content in the list.
“Lucifer” tops this week’s chart beating “The Umbrella Academy” for the first time. “The Legend of Korra” series has climbed up to the second spot, while the previous number one has dropped down to third. “Project Power” is the only film which makes this list at sixth place. The full top 10 rankings are as follows:-
1. Lucifer (75 episodes) – 1,591 million minutes
2. The Legend of Korra (52 episodes) – 1,248 million minutes
3. The Umbrella Academy (20 episodes) – 1,088 million minutes
4. The Office (192 episodes) – 928 million minutes
5. Shameless (121 episodes) – 802 million minutes
6. Grey’s Anatomy (361 episodes) – 768 million minutes
7. Project Power (Film) – 761 million minutes
8. Criminal Minds (277 episodes) – 713 million minutes
9. NCIS (353 episodes) – 533 million minutes
10. Teenage Bounty Hunters (10 episodes) – 422 million minutes
This list however drastically differs from Netflix’s own list of top 10 viewed, where they show more of their original content. Netflix’s list is based on users watching at least two minutes of a title in 24 hours, which is different to Nielsen who counts the minutes watched.
