Nikash Chhaya: Bold Attempt, But Does It Deliver True Bengali Horror?

Hoichoi just launched its second instalment of the “Bhaduri Moshai” saga, “Nikash Chhaya”, directed by Parambrata Chattopadhyay.

As this Halloween gave the Bengali audience a very good treat, as per the story goes, Bhaduri Moshai embarked on another journey with his good old Og gang.

This series is completely different from the previous one, which was “Parnashavarir Shaap”.

It revolves around a couple of corpses disappearing from a morgue and the police officer Amiya is investigating with his team when they come across a monster named “Genu”.

This sadden meet reminded him of a 10 years old story he heard from a friend which completely matches with the current situation, so Amiya seeks Bhaduri Moshai’s help.

This series portrayed some good amount of graphic elements, and since the first instalment of this series, this series was much hyped and it is fair to say that it didn’t disappoint the audience.

But, is this a story that will keep you awake at night? Perhaps it won’t, but it surely will send some chills through your spine.

This series portrayed a good amount of body horror, which requires a hefty amount of VFX, and being a Bengali industry the budgets are always quite low and it shows poor vfx, but in this series the images are smartly portrayed.

This series features Surangana Bandyopadhyay, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Anindita Bose, Anujoy Chattopadhyay, Arna Mukhopadhyay, Rahul Dev Bose and Kanchan Mallik in pivotal roles.

To sum it up, Bengali ghosts are often less scary in the movies but Parambrata’s “Nikosh Chhaya” is absolutely one step ahead of his previous work “Parnashavari Shaap” and a nice move towards gruesome horror in the Bengali industry.
