Nivin Pauly’s Upcoming Historical Drama ‘Thuramukham’ Drops A Brilliant Teaser!

Thuramukham’s‘ film producers made an announcement yesterday that a new teaser is coming out the next day. And on schedule, Nivin Pauly‘s much anticipated historical drama dropped its first teaser on the official YouTube page of the Malayalam media company, Surya TV, today. The trailer is all about brilliant visuals, giving us a glimpse of Kochi in the late 30s and 40s, making it a very engrossing promotional video. Check out the one-minute teaser at the end of this article.

The movie is set during the time period of 1923 to 1957 – from pre-independent India till the Communist revolution in Kerala. The film is set in the backdrop of a harbour (which is what Thuramukham means in Malayalam) in the aforementioned time period, so the movie shows the harbour workers situation as the time stretched, varying from their initial tough situations till the time they took power in their own hands. The film mainly talks about these labourers and how they had to undergo social revolution so as to take back their lives.

The teaser of the film starts of with a man cracking a whip in front of a group of people. In front of the masters, the labourers are forced into inhumane competitions, where they fight each other and the last men standing get a chappa (token) each to, signifying their “right” to a job. The next montage shows a change in time period, the early 50s, where the underprivileged people are slowly beginning to stand up for themselves. The clips keep moving back and forth during the various time periods at the harbour, with a communist party gathering, bringing about social change while another clip shows people waiting for their master to leave, bowing. The change in social interaction as the time period moves along is fascinating to watch and the first looks of the all-star cast in the teaser including Nivin Pauly, Poornima Indrajith, Indrajith Sukumaran, Arjun Ashokan, Nimisha Sajayan, Sudev Nair, Manikandan R. Achari and Darshana Rajendran are impressive. And all this happens with a haunting folk song in the backdrop of the teaser.

The film was expected to release a week after the Eid celebration period. But due to the current Covid-19 situation in Kerala and the current lockdown in the same state, the movie is now expected to release in a couple of months. The film was directed by Rajeev Ravi and the teaser was cut by his wife – actress and director Geethu Mohandas.

Thuramukham‘ will premiere in theatres in July.
