The makers had to bring him back from the dead. Imagine the popularity of Jon Snow; only someone like Sherlock Holmes achieved that level of heat, and that too in literature. So, if the franchise decided to spread its wings, the fans wanted to know the stories of Jon Snow. He was definitely the most beloved character.
But a recent set of updates just turned the tables upside down. Kit Harington managed to share insights in a recent interview as he talks about HBO not actively working on the planned Jon Snow spin-off.
Though HBO has no intention to slow down their Game Of Thrones spin-off factory, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will rule on the platform. Jon Snow will face a similar fate as the Game Of Thrones finale, being mistreated and stripped of his deserving rights.
When Kit Harington was asked about the progress of the show, he stated, “I hadn’t really ever spoken about it because it was in development. I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle and see whether it’s worth it.”
“And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
Now, if HBO is determined to gift the fans some deserving farewell of Jon Snow with the spin-off and having certain setbacks just for the search of the right story, the reason is definitely justified. HBO can’t really do injustice to Jon Snow twice, especially after the finale. They should give a public apology regarding how Snow’s story turned out.
But if the studio is planning to focus on their ongoing series first and shelving the Jon Snow spin-off for that reason, HBO definitely can face massive fan rage..
