David Dhawan’s 45th film ‘Coolie No. 1’ is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video this Christmas. The makers have further decided that the film will not have any sort of theatrical release, neither in India nor overseas.
Going by how Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmmi’ released on Disney+Hotstar in India and in cinemas in select overseas markets (United Arab Emirates, Fiji, Australia and New Zealand), there were speculations about ‘Coolie No. 1’ following either the same route or having a simultaneous release on Amazon Prime Video and theatres in India and abroad.
But all these speculations have been put to end by the makers and Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer ‘Coolie No. 1’ will now only have an exclusive digital release on Amazon Prime Video on 25th December, 2020. That means no theatrical release either in India or anywhere else in the world.
‘Coolie No. 1‘ is a remake of the Govinda and Karishma Kapoor’s 1995 comedy-drama of the same name and the official synopsis of the film reads, “After being insulted by a rich businessman named Rosario, pandit Jai Kishen teaches him a lesson by getting his daughter married to Raju – a Coolie posing as a millionaire. Soon Raju’s real identity is exposed but he cooks up a story of having a filthy rich twin. One lie leads to another and things start to go out of hand.”
Starring Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan, Paresh Rawal, Javed Jaffrey, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, Sahil Vaid and Shikha Talsania, ‘Coolie No. 1’ is a Pooja Entertainment Franchise that has been directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh.
‘Coolie No. 1’ will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on 25th December, 2020.
