Not Just Theatres, Even OTTs Are Struggling For Profits!

We often think that with everyone glued to their phones and TVs at home, streaming platforms must be raking in the money. But the truth is far from it. Many of them are cutting down on their budgets, and it shows. It’s not just cinema halls like PVR that are struggling to stay afloat. OTT platforms are facing the heat too.

The main problem? A serious lack of fresh ideas. Most shows feel like they’ve been made in a factory. Same faces, same twists, same formulas. How many times can we watch another crime drama with a troubled cop, or a romantic comedy where everyone already knows how it ends? Audiences are bored, and when content feels recycled, it doesn’t matter how glossy it looks.

Adding to the frustration is the rising cost of subscriptions. Prices are going up, but the quality isn’t. And then there are ads. Many viewers were annoyed when platforms like Amazon Prime started inserting ads even for paying users. Now, they’ve finally decided to remove them, but only for those who pay even more. It’s like being asked to buy a ticket and then being told to pay extra just to sit in peace.

People want value for their money. They’re okay paying, but they expect something new, something exciting. Streaming was supposed to break the rules, not become another version of old-school TV. Until platforms take risks and start valuing creativity again, both their content, and their profits will keep going in circles.
