Sushmita Sen returned from her sabbatical from screen with web series Aarya on Disney+Hotstar recently. She has received widespread acclaim for her portrayal of the character of Aarya from people within the industry as well as general public. The series itself has received thunderous response. Sushmita Sen could not have asked for a more powerful comeback vehicle than Ram Madhvani’s Aarya. While still enjoying the appreciation, co-creator Sandeep Modi reveals that the team is encouraged to work on ensuring editions of the show referencing to its Dutch original Penoza. Yes you read it right, the talks of developing subsequent seasons of Aarya are underway!!
The web series, an official adaptation of the Dutch crime drama Penoza, has been widely applauded for its strong performances and deft direction. The nine-part thriller revolves around Sen’s character Aarya who is compelled to take over the drug business after her husband is killed. The series was made in a manner where it did not resort to cliff-hangers and seems to have a sense of completion even though the series will continue in next seasons.
Sandeep Modi, who co-directed Aarya on Disney+Hotstar along with Madhvani and Vinod Rawat, reveals, “We wish to make it across five seasons, like Penoza. We are blessed because it is an adaptation of an [international] show, so we know how the story will be moving forward. The plot points are in our head, and now, it has to be put on paper. Let’s hope it gets greenlit soon.”
Modi gives the credit to Ram Madhavani for making a Dutch show seamlessly fit into a Rajasthani backdrop, where the royalty of the state added to the show. Modi believes Sushmita Sen elevated the series with her stellar performance, he says “She is not only a sharp actor, but also has high respect for the written word. She contributed so much to her character with her suggestions.”
This is a great news for all those who loved Aarya on Disney+Hotstar and cannot wait for the next season to arrive.
