OG Disney Show Sequel Series Gets A Name!

OG teen fantasy Disney sitcom ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ was quick to become a fan-favorite with its likable and eccentric characters and comedically light-hearted plotlines. It starred Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, David DeLuise, Maria Canals-Barrera, and Jennifer Stone in major regular roles.

Fans were left divided when Disney announced a much-awaited sequel series of the show earlier this year. Now, the show has an official title. ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ will begin with Justin, the eldest of the Russo sibling trio, living a normal, mortal life with his wife and kids when Alex, the family wizard, coming over to seek help for her daughter.

The plot will make Justin dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also balancing his responsibilities and protecting the future of the Wizard World.

While numerous fans were overjoyed at the news, many expressed distaste over the absence of numerous actors from the original series. Moreover, fans were also not happy to know that Gomez will only be reprising her beloved role of Alex Russo, the quirky troublemaker, as a guest star.

Likely to premiere later this year, the series has been marked ‘nostalgia bait’ by some already. Will the show become one of many in the list of unsuccessful spinoffs and reboots? Stay tuned to find out!
