Netflix’s upcoming horror thriller ‘Old People’ certainly has an interesting premise. With the elderly usually portrayed as sweet and warm, the German movie has them as blood-seeking killers.
‘Old People’ is a German thriller that tells the story of a woman who has returned home to attend her sister’s wedding. Alongside her are her two kids- a daughter and a younger son. The events that start to happen after they arrive at the place make up the story of the movie.
We are in the first few seconds introduced to Saalheim House, probably the place where old people stay, with helpers to take care of them. We are informed that the protagonist’s father stays there. We are also introduced to a carved stone of some kind, that is held important by the old folks and supposedly ‘keeps the family together’. With it being quite evident that things start to go wrong after the arrival of the protagonist and her kids, they may have done something intentionally or otherwise that puts the events into place.
The film feels different from the whole brigade of horror films set for release during the upcoming Halloween season. The trailer is well cut and gives away just the correct amount of information to make us curious, but not too much that we already know all that’s about to happen in the movie. The performances and the background music adds to create the spooky vibe of the trailer.
The film is written and directed by Andy Fetscher. ‘Old People’ is set to release on Netflix on October 7, 2022.
