Oldboy Helmer Park Chan-wook’s ‘War and Revolt’ Greenlit At Netflix

Veteran South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, whose last film as a director ‘Decision to Leave’ received rave reviews across the globe last year, is all set to collaborate with the streaming giant Netflix. The collaboration is for a film titled ‘War and Revolt’. But the legendary filmmaker won’t be directing the said feature film project, in fact, he will be involved in it as a co-producer and a co-writer. Interestingly, the film will be Park Chan wook’s first ever creative collaboration with Netflix.

‘War and Revolt’ is a historical drama movie which is set amidst the backdrop of war. The story revolves around the lives of two childhood friends (played by Gang Dong-won and Park Jeong-min), who later become enemies. Gang will essay the role of a martial arts expert who desperately wants to set himself free from servitude. On the other hand, Park Jeong-min will play the role of Gang’s former master who eventually becomes King Seonjo’s personal guard.

The addition of a filmmaker of Park Chan-wook’s caliber will certainly lend a significant amount of credibility to the Netflix project. The eminent filmmaker, who is known for his distinctive style of direction and visual approach in films, has previously helmed some highly rated films such as the now-classic action thriller flick ‘Joint Security Area’, the cult film ‘Oldboy’, psychological thriller ‘The Handmaiden’, and last year’s ‘Decision to Leave’, amongst others.

‘War and Revolt’ is directed by Kim Sang-man, who has earlier gone behind the camera for the 2010 action thriller movie ‘’Midnight FM’ and biopic film ‘The Tenor – Lirico Spinto’. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the forthcoming Netflix film ‘War and Revolt’, which is being backed by Park Chan-wook.
