Olivia Colman, Dev Patel Cast In Unusual Romantic Drama ‘Wicker’

Olivia Colman and Dev Patel are a virtually unimaginable romantic pair, right? However, in an interesting casting decision for an unusual romantic drama movie titled ‘Wicker’, the talented duo has been roped in to star in the main roles. The film is being described as a twisted romance and will be helmed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson. Filming is expected to kick off sometime in the second half of the next year in Europe.

The underlying plot of ‘Wicker’ is based on a short story ‘The Wicker Husband’, which was penned by Ursula Wills-Jones. In the movie, Olivia Colman will be seen in the role of a derided and smelly fisherwoman, who lives in a seaside village. After reaching a saturation point, the single woman decides to commission a husband made of wicker. But the unusual romance between them results in jealousy and chaos amongst the conservative villagers. The role of the lifeless husband will be essayed by Dev Patel.

Olivia Colman, who had bagged the ‘Best Actress’ Oscar and BAFTA awards for her role in the period comedy drama film ‘The Favourite’, has also won a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy for the Netflix series ‘The Crown’ besides winning numerous other accolades. She will next be seen in the upcoming comedy adventure movie ‘Wonka’ co-starring Timothee Chalamet and Hugh Grant.

On the other hand, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor Dev Patel’s forthcoming acting projects include the action thriller movie ‘Monkey Man’, which is also his feature film directorial debut. The Oscar nominated actor was last seen in Wes Anderson’s short films ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ and ‘Poison’.
