It seems like Christopher Nolan‘s casting team for Oppenheimer isn’t taking a break. The latest news is that Olivia Thirlby is joining the already stacked cast of Oppenheimer. Now we are certain that this casting is one for the history books. Its not even two weeks since Acting thespian Gary Oldman revealed that he’s to shoot for the film which would also be his reunion with Nolan after the Batman Trilogy and we have another fresh addition to the film. However quite expectedly character Thirlby plays is not yet disclosed.
Oppenheimer, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer” by Kai Bird and late Martin J. Sherwin has Cillian Murphy playing the theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer whose work in the Manhattan Project led to the invention of the atomic bomb. He is credited as the “father of the atomic bomb”, for the good or bad. The film takes on the paradox that is the life of the eminent scientist who had to risk destroying the world amidst a World War in order to save it.
Thirlby joins a fire-cracker ensemble comprising of the who’s who of Hollywood like Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, David Dastmalchian, Olli Haaskivi, Jason Clarke, James D’Arcy, Michael Angarano, Guy Burnet, Danny Deferrari, Matthias Schweighöfer, Gary Oldman, Harrison Gilbertson, Emma Dumont, Devon Bostick, Trond Fausa, Christopher Denham and Josh Zuckerman. Wow that’s too much to take, isn’t?
The film already started rolling in the month of March. At a touted budget of $100m, Oppenheimer is one of Nolan’s biggest projects yet and is distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures. He penned the script himself and also co-produces the film.
At this point every actor in Hollywood is either cast in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie or Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Well, we hope the a bomb-cast like this is not just for promotional noises. We haven’t forgotten the Adam McKay directorial “Don’t Look Up”. As of now Oppenheimer is scheduled for a worldwide release on July 21, 2023, around two weeks before the anniversary of Hiroshima Atomic bombing. Stay tuned for more updates.
