Yesterday, Yash Raj Films had finally unveiled a magnificent trailer for its forthcoming period action-adventure film ‘Shamshera’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. Shamshera’s trailer managed to surpass audience’s expectations and the film will hopefully give YRF their much-awaited hit after the insipid box office response of ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’, ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’, and ‘Samrat Prithviraj’.
After Shamshera’s trailer release, much is being talked about Ranbir Kapoor’s period look and his first ever double role, Sanjay Dutt’s screen presence, the film’s premium production values, and the film’s director Karan Malhotra of ‘Agneepath’ fame. However, one vital aspect that is sadly being overlooked by cinema enthusiasts is the film’s writer(s), a mostly ignored filmmaking parameter.
You’ll be surprised to know that ‘Shamshera’ has been co-written by eminent Indian journalist turned movie script writer and lyricist, who had become a household name after his acclaimed radio show ‘Yaadon Ka Idiot Box’. Yes, we are talking about the gifted Lucknow-born storyteller Neelesh Misra.
Neelesh Misra has jointly written the story of ‘Shamshera’ along with his college mate Khila Bisht with a screenplay by Karan Malhotra himself. Moreover, this is not the first time Neelesh Misra has penned the story for a Bollywood film. Because previously, he has collaborated with YRF as a writer for three of their films namely ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, and the upcoming instalment ‘Tiger 3’. Neelesh Misra’s creative involvement for ‘Shamshera’ will certainly be an asset for YRF’s ambitious cinematic venture ‘Shamshera’ as all his stories have their hearts in the right place.
Set in the 1800s era in the fictitious city of Kaza, ‘Shamshera’ revolves around a fearless dacoit tribe led by Ranbir Kapoor’s character, and how he fights against the Britishers for their independence. But to achieve that, the protagonist must defeat the ruthless villain Daroga Shuddh Singh (played by Sanjay Dutt). Vaani Kapoor is essaying the role of a traveling performer and apparently Ranbir Kapoor’s love interest. Being touted as a high-octane, larger-than-life entertainer, ‘Shamshera’ is all set for a theatrical release on 22nd July.
