We’ve had the Big Boss, America’s Got Talent and Dancing With The Stars of the world coming to India before, as Indian versions of the popular reality shows. But for the first time ever, the opposite has happened. An Indian show, a purely ‘Made In India’ show, has got a foreign iteration!
The show in question is Prime Video India’s stand-up comedy show, ‘One Mic Stand’. The comedy reality show, with singularly unique concept at its core, was a hit when it first released on Prime Video India in 2020. Then One Mic Stand Season 2 happened, and it was an equally big success for the platform. Now, Prime Video has found the innovative comedy show worthy enough to create an international iteration of it.
Yes, One Mic Stand Germany just debuted worldwide on Prime Video. As the name suggests, it is the German language version of One Mic Stand, executed in Germany, with German celebs and German stand-up comedians as their mentors. If that isn’t something to be proud of, then what is! One Mic Stand is a purely Indian creation by Indian company, Only Much Louder.
For those who don’t know, One Mic Stand gets five well-known celebrities from diverse fields to perform live stand-up comedy on the show. The five celebrities are guided by five stalwart stand-up comics as their mentors, who guide and teach them how to present a stand-up comedy act. One Mic Stand India had Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, musician Vishal Dadlani, social media personality Bhuvan Bam, actresses Taapsee Pannu and Richa Chadha, filmmaker Karan Johar, author Chetan Bhagat, TV journalist Faye D’Souza, rapper-musician Raftar and actress Sunny Leone as the celebs on two seasons of the show, mentored by Zakir Khan, Kunal Kamra, Angad Ranyal, Rohan Joshi, Ashish Shakya, Abish Mathew, Neeti Palta, Atul Khatri, Samay Raina and Sumukhi Suresh. Sapan Verma was the host of both seasons.
One Mic Stand Germany features soccer stars Mats Hummels and Christoph Kramer, dancer and TV judge Motsi Mabuse, actor-producer Fahri Yardim, model Lorena Rae and Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach as the celebs who try their hand at stand-up comedy for the first time. Michael Mittermeier, Harald Schmidt, Torsten Sträter, Hazel Brugger, and Tedros “Teddy” Teclebrhan act as their mentors.
Now that One Mic Stand Germany has debuted on Prime Video, we may expect its French, Australian and other versions too.
