‘ONE PIECE’ Lands On Netflix Tomorrow! Here’s All You Need To Know

Eiichiro Oda’s popular and much loved Japanese manga ‘One Piece’ has been turned into a long-running anime series, 15 animated films and 40 video games over the past 26 years but it’s the first time that it is getting adapted into a live-action series that will land on Netflix tomorrow on 31st August, 2023.

To hype the launch Netflix has released a new final trailer for ‘One Piece’ today. In this trailer Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), a rubber-skinned teenager sets out to become King of the Pirates. As he conquers the sea, Luffy recruits a ragtag crew of misfits to join him onboard, including Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero), and Sanji (Taz Skylar). Calling themselves the Straw Hats, Luffy and his gang sail from island to island in search of the mysterious One Piece treasure. Of course, no adventure is smooth sailing. On their quest, the Straw Hats run into dangerous rivals who stand in their way of hitting the jackpot.

The popularity of ‘One Piece’ is such that the fan-favorite franchise has sold 516.5 million worth of books — making Oda the 10th bestselling fiction writer of all time. An epic saga of adventure on the high seas, the original manga follows the adventures of Luffy, an enthusiastic young man with the singular aspiration of becoming King of the Pirates.

Conceived as a serialized manga pirate adventure, ‘One Piece’ debuted in July 1997 in the manga anthology magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump. A hit with readers, the first four chapters of ‘One Piece’ were eventually collected and released in December 1997. Since then, there have been 105 (and counting!) collected volumes of ‘One Piece’ stories, all written and illustrated by Oda-Sensei.

In 1999, Toei Animation produced a ‘One Piece’ 2D animated series based on Oda-Sensei’s work. It gave dedicated ‘One Piece’ readers a slightly different take on the books, and was an opportunity to welcome non-readers and anime fans into the mythology. It now boasts 20 seasons with over 1,000 episodes of adventures featuring Luffy and a huge ensemble of characters.

In addition to the above mentioned, ‘One Piece’ on Netflix also stars Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.

‘One Piece’ is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners, with Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements joining Oda as executive producers. ‘One Piece’ will premiere only on Netflix on 31st August, 2023.
