The 2022 psychological horror thriller film ‘Orphan : First Kill‘, a prequel to the 2009 film Orphan released at the movies on August 19th. The prequel to the 13 year old film came with lots of anticipation and grossed over $37 million worldwide. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the film’s twists, practical effects and lead actor Fuhrman’s performance, while also criticising the inconsistencies in the story. The film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video India in multiple languages. The film audio is available in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu as well.
Directed by William Brent Bell, it is written by David Coggeshall, based on a story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alex Mace (who wrote the screenplay and story to the predecessor). Bank-rolled by eOne, Dark Castle Entertainment, Sierra/Affinity and Eagle Vision, the film stars Isabelle Fuhrman reprising her role of Esther, with Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland, Hiro Kanagawaa and Mathhew Finlan co-starring.
The makers of Orphan: First Kill also stated be a third film in the Orphan franchise and even possible multiple films with Esther’s character. The filmmaker also expressed interest in exploring a darker third installment that would complete a full story of Leena Klammer / Esther, while stating that there could be multiple sequels. However, as of now there’s been no official word on a possible sequel.
The digital rights of the film is owned by Paramount+, but however in India the rights are with Amazon Prime Video. The 2009 film Orphan is also streaming on Amazon Prime Video in India. The film was earlier available on the platform in pay model, but now is available for all its subscribers. Off-late all the streaming giants are rigorously opting to stream titles in multiple Indian language audios besides subtitles in multiple languages. This is a welcome change because people who don’t prefer watching film with subtitles can now experience entertainment in their local languages.
