Orphan Helmer To Direct Emily Blunt In Sherlock Holmes Like Thriller

A couple of years back, it was revealed that ‘Jungle Cruise’ co-stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt were teaming up as producers for a new film. In the film, Emily Blunt was expected to essay the role of Pinkerton Agency’s first female detective Kate Warne, a real-life Sherlock Holmes like character. However, Dwayne Johnson’s presence as an actor was not confirmed and it still isn’t. The film’s casting is yet to be officially confirmed.

But as per another update, the Kate Warne movie by Amazon MGM has now got a director. The film featuring Emily Blunt will reportedly be directed by ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Jungle Cruise’ helmer Jaume Collet-Serra. The talented Spanish-American filmmaker has previously directed some entertaining thrillers like ‘Orphan’ besides some Liam Neeson films such as ‘Unknown’, ‘Run All Night’, ‘Non-Stop’, and ‘The Commuter’, etc. His next film titled ‘Carry On’ is also an action thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman which will be released on Netflix.

Coming back to the Emily Blunt starrer yet untitled Kate Warne movie, it is being touted as a propulsive action-adventure thriller, a genre which is Jaume Collet-Serra’s forte. For the unversed, Pinkerton was a US-based security guard and detective agency set up in the 1850s by Scotsman Allan Pinkerton. The agency is well known for claiming to have averted an assassination plot on Abraham Lincoln and it went on to provide personal security to the legendary US President.

While Kate Warne, a 23-year-old widow had reportedly walked into Pinkerton office and said to have impressed the owner, who hired her making her the first female detective not only at the Pinkerton Detective Agency but also in the United States.

Considering the backstory of this super interesting real-life female character, her life story has immense potential to be translated into an equally intriguing film on the lines of Sherlock Holmes. The film is being touted as a propulsive action-adventure that would ostensibly revolve around Kate Warne’s adventures as a female detective, who gave way to women in law enforcement and changed the way detective work was done during the era.
