A biopic series based on the legendary Hollywood actor-filmmaker of the silent era – Buster Keaton is in the works at Warner Bros. And the series has found its lead actor in Rami Malek, who is set to essay the titular role of Buster Keaton.
Matt Reeves, the director of superhit superhero movie ‘The Batman’, is associated with the Buster Keaton biopic project as a producer and he is also expected to direct the biopic series. The potential source material for the biopic is James Curtis’ book “Buster Keaton: A Filmmaker’s Life”, which was published in the year 2022.
For the unversed, Buster Keaton is regarded as one of the greatest actor-directors of all time and is well-known for his silent era films (besides Charlie Chaplin). He became quite popular for his incredible physical comedy stunts and his trademark deadpan expression. Some of his best works were seen in films such as ‘Sherlock Jr.’, ‘Steamboat Bill, Jr.’, ‘Our Hospitality’ and the extra special film ‘The General’, amongst others. In 1960, Buster Keaton was given the Honorary Award by the Academy for his unique talents which brought immortal comedies to the screen.
And it seems that the makers have found a suitable performer in Rami Malek to play the role of Buster Keaton in the biopic series. The California-born actor came into limelight when he played the role of a vigilante hacker in the acclaimed series ‘Mr. Robot’. Besides, he also played the main villain in Daniel Craig’s last James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’.
This is not the first time Rami Malek will be essaying the lead role in a biopic. Previously, he had played the role of rock band singer Freddie Mercury in Bryan Singer’s 2018 film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. Rami Malek had bagged the ‘Best Actor’ Oscar Award for his performance in the biographical film. But can Rami Malek recreate the same magic in the Buster Keaton biopic series? We hope he will.
