Video player turned OTT streaming app MX Player was recently in the news for achieving the feat of being downloaded an astounding billion number of times on the Google Play Store. In doing that, MX Player has joined joining the elite billion downloads club comprising apps including Twitter, Instagram, Spotify, Snapchat, and MS office apps like Microsoft Word, etc.
In the Indian OTT world that is blessed with some immensely popular streaming apps (irrespective of its Indian or foreign ownership), the 1 billion download milestone has previously been achieved by merely a couple of OTT players that are functional in India.
We have compiled for our readers a list of OTT apps operating in India along with their approximate total number of downloads (at the time of writing this article) from the Google Play Store (downloads data from Apple’s App Store is not available from the app). Let’s see where MX Player is placed in terms of total downloads compared to other Indian OTT apps.
However, it may be observed that the data below also includes some apps which are not exclusive OTT platforms. Moreover, for the sake of consistency, we have considered only video streaming apps for this article.
