The streaming rights for the Malayalam movie ‘Thuramukham’ are bagged by SonyLIV. The movie had its theatrical release only today and audiences seem to be quite impressed with it. Thuramukham is a historical drama written by Gopan Chidambaran and directed by filmmaker Rajeev Ravi. Rajeev Ravi’s last release was the 2022 film Kuttavum Sikshayum.
Thuramukham was supposed to be released long ago but finally it had its release today. The film stars Nivin Pauly in the lead role and has actors like Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Arjun Ashokan, Sudev Nair and Manikandan R. Achari in other important roles.
Thuramukham translates as ‘The Harbour’ and it tells the stories of struggle of the harbour workers in the 1940s and 1950s. In the Kochin harbours, a system called ‘Chappa’ was in existence which promoted casual labour allocation and a ‘work guarantee’ scheme. Workers soon grow weary of such a heavy system looting them and exploiting them and they protest.
If you are captivated by the visuals in many of Anurag Kashyap’s movies, that is probably because of Rajeev Ravi. Ravi has collaborated with Kashyap for films like Gulaal, No-Smoking, Dev-D. So, there is no doubt that the cinematography and the visuals of Ravi’s own movie will be pretty good.
The music of the movie is given by K. Shahabaz Aman and it is edited by B. Ajithkumar. The film is jointly produced by houses like Thekkepat Films, Pauly Jr. Pictures, Collective Phase One and Queen Mary Movies. Loaded with wonderful performances and beautiful execution, Thuramukham is a beautiful film. It will be streaming on SonyLIV after some time.
