OTTs & Their Democracy : A Boon For Hidden Indian Gems

Thanks to the OTT platforms actors like Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Banerjee, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sumeet Vyas, Mithila Palkar, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shweta Tripathi, Sayani Gupta, Tripti Dimri, Maanvi Gagroo and many more got the much needed appreciation they deserved. They might not have had big budget bollywood blockbusters, yet have managed to create their own niche in the world of web series and films.

These actors proved that if you are good at what you do nobody can stop you from making a name for yourself. And the OTT platforms have been a huge help for them to showcase their talent. With no box office collection parameter to judge a film’s success, the OTT platforms have provided a level playing field.

The only criteria to judge a film or show on OTTs now is the content/story and the performance of the actors. That sort of gives a democratic viewing experience to the audience with no bias for big stars. It gives the actors the freedom to play characters with different shades without the fear of being typecast for certain roles.

Not only this, the video streaming services have aslo helped many actors to revive their career or play roles like never before. Be it Sushmita Sen, Ronit Roy, Jimmy Shergill, Arshad Warsi, Chandrachur Singh, Kunaal Kemmu, Abhishek Bachchan, Amit Sadh, Vidyut Jammwal and many more, OTTs have proven nothing less than a blessing for them.

What the scenario will be one when things start getting back to normal is not known but the fact that OTT platforms will continue to give a major competition to both TV and theatres is a sure shot. The advantage of the format and economics involved in making films and shows for streaming services with the availability of such phenomenal actors who are often neglected in the mainstream, the stars seem to be aligned for theses OTT platforms in the coming future.
