Along with the exceptional rise of OTT platforms this year, rose the recognition of two categories of actors in particular. These new set of actors are not all that new and some of them have been there for quite a time now, though a little out of focus.
Generally, we have two clear silos to which actors belong, i.e., the film stars and the theatre artists. In both these categories only a few make a big name while others remain there mainly in supporting roles. But with OTTs in place the scenes are changing and each character has almost equal contribution in making an OTT content successful.
As mentioned earlier, two new categories of actors have emerged in this new OTT era and that includes – firstly, those actors who did not belong categorically to either the films or theatres and secondly, we have those who had their experience with the Indian film and TV industry or theatre but were either unable to shine out or have been dormant for years now.
This includes actors like Bobby Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Bannerjee, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sushmita Sen, Pankaj Tripathi, Pratik Gandhi, Ali Fazal, Arshad Warsi, Jimmy Shergill, Kunaal Kemmu, Vidyut Jammwal, Amit Sadh, Vijay Verma, Sumeet Vyas, Rasika Duggal, Sayani Gupta, Maanvi Gagroo, Divyenndu Sharma, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Jatin Sarna, and many more.
Most of them are talk of the town now as they were among the most viewed group of actors during the lockdown, when the only choice of viewing left with people was through the highly popular online streaming services. These actors did not have the fear of loosing their so called star value and they just strived to put out the best versions of themselves in their respective OTT projects.
The end result was nothing less than splendid and in turn these fearless actors started getting the much needed recognition they long deserved. And this was aided by the increased use of social media marketing strategies that these tech savvy OTT platforms use to target the younger audience. And it wouldn’t be wrong to say that it worked perfectly well.
In fact, don’t you feel all these above mentioned actors and OTT platforms are like matches made in heaven? Like couples who bring out the best in each other?
