Zindagi-original Pakistani web show ‘Dhoop Ki Deewar‘ streaming in India on Zee5 finally comes to an end, with the last two episodes dropping this Friday. The romantic drama directed by Haseeb Hassan (of ‘Parwaaz Hai Junoon’ fame) and written by popular Urdu fiction novelist and screenplay writer Umera Ahmed, features real-life couple Sajal Aly (of ‘Mom’ fame) and Canadian-Pakistani actor and singer Ahad Raza Mir (of ‘Parwaaz Hai Junoon’ and ‘Coke Studio’ fame).
Streaming giant Zee5 made an announcement earlier today regarding the show’s finale. ‘Dhoop Ki Deewar’ is one of the most popular running Pakistani web shows streaming on an Indian OTT platform. The makers have been releasing 2 episodes weekly, with the last two (15th & 16th episodes) set to premiere this Friday.
The plot follows a not-so-simple cross-border love story between an Indian boy Vishal (played by Mir) and Pakistani girl Sarah (played by Aly) who lose their fathers in the war. An impromptu social media outburst sets the tone of the show in the beginning and the two begin to get to know each other. Their grief and common circumstances form the foundation of a friendship, that gradually blossoms into love. This extremely heartwarming show started streaming on 25th June and the finale will premiere just ahead of the 74th Independence Day for both countries.
Calling the show a sincere effort at promoting peace and solidarity, a Zindagi spokesperson said, “‘Dhoop Ki Deewar’ is a tale of separation, courage and sacrifice that unfolds in the families of martyrs. Our intention with the show is to ensure that a unique, powerful yet emotional story travels across continents. This is our special gesture of choosing ‘heart over hate’.”
Incidentally, Sajal was last seen in India in the 2017 Sridevi-starrer ‘Mom’, which even earned her a Zee Cine Awards nomination for Best Actress in a supporting role. Talking about ‘Dhoop Ki Deewar’ and her character, she said, “This series is a project that celebrates peace and most importantly unity between two countries. I am a director’s actor, so 50% of my work depends on what the director expects from me and the rest is what I believe is required of myself. During the making of the series, director Haseeb Hassan helped me understand who Sara really is- a confident and grounded girl who is also very emotional.”
The show has been well received so far with a 7.3 rating on the IMDb meter and fans are excited to see how the series comes to an end. It is yet to be seen however, whether the makers announce a 2nd season following the popularity of the show.
