Panchayat Season 4 was released just last month. Although it got a very good opening according to the standards of a common series, this season was slightly underwhelming for both audiences and critics alike.
For critics, they were not very happy with too much emphasis on the elections when the series was originally supposed to be about the struggles of a middle class boy who is preparing for CAT.
The audience didn’t love the series much for the same reason. The proof lies in the low opening of the latest season.
The third season, too, was released in May and thus the fourth season came immediately after completing a year.
Now, the fifth season is already announced for 2026. You see, this is a problem. Every series takes time to develop. The story, the characters and everything demand multiple reflections before they are finally shot.
But it looks like TVF is rushing the shoot. The platform brings every season in consecutive years. It may not be the best for the storyline which is clearly struggling.
Panchayat is a gem. The series is one of the most loved and celebrated series ever made in India. But it is best to not kill the series in the name of continuity. The show must get the time it deserves to be made.
