Pankaj Tripathi & Kriti Sanon Make a Splash in ‘Mimi’ Trailer

The upcoming film ‘Mimi’ starring Kriti Sanon along with Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Manoj Pahwa, and Supriya Pathak has been garnering curious attention amongst social media users ever since the film’s innovative “inverted question mark” look was revealed by the makers recently. And now, the makers have finally revealed the much-anticipated trailer of the upcoming movie ‘Mimi’.

The trailer starts off with Pankaj Tripathi’s impressive screen presence and his trademark rib-tickling dialogue delivery about the purity of the mother-son relationship. His character is later shown to convey the idea to Kriti Sanon’s character that an American couple wants her to become a surrogate mother. The trailer further shows his humorous attempts to convince her to accept the lucrative offer.

The goings-on shift from a humorous to a serious tone after it’s revealed that the foreign couple has backed out. It’s here that we see glimpses of Kriti Sanon’s sincerely portrayed range of emotions that displays her untapped potential.

As per a recent poster of the Laxman Utekar directorial, ‘Mimi’ is based on the original story by Samruoddhi Porey, who had written and directed the National Award-winning and critically acclaimed Marathi film ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’ which was released in the year 2011. Two years later, the film was remade in Telugu with the title ‘Welcome Obama’ with the same lead actress Urmila Kanetkar.

The ‘parent’ film ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’ revolved around a poor woman who accepts an offer from a foreigner – to become a surrogate mother for her child. However, due to an unforeseen incident, the goings-on take an unexpected turn in the protagonist’s life. Whether ‘Mimi’ would follow the same plot and characters or would it venture into a different story can only be known after the film’s release. After all, Mimi’s punchline also says – “Nothing like what you’re expecting!”

Mimi’ is scheduled to start streaming on the JioCinema and Netflix OTT platforms from July 30, 2021, onwards. With such a talented cast, songs & background score by music maestro by A.R. Rahman, besides a proficient director at the helm, it would be interesting to see whether the film receives similar accolades like ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’ or will be a ‘missed opportunity’ like ‘Welcome Obama’. We sincerely hope and believe it’s the former and the trailer proves just that.
