“Parallels” Trailer: This Disney+ Original is a Dark and Stranger Things Cross-Over!

Disney Plus has been trying out every gamble out there is that Netflix has aced. Be it their venture into Korean drama originals space or their other International originals. The latest in the offing from Disney+ is “Parallels“, touted as a French fantasy sci-fi series on the lines of Netflix “Stranger Things”. The streaming platform today unveiled its trailer and key-art with a premiere date set on March 23,2022. Guess what? We are definitely reminded of Stranger Things and not JUST Stranger Things.

Centred around four friends named Bilal, Romane, Samuel and Victor, “Parallels” takes us to a mysterious event that scatters the gang of friends into different timelines. Gathering up their unbridled courage and mindfulness, the teenagers try every hack under their knack to understand what went wrong and try to get the lost carefree phase of their lives back. From the trailer, the show looks more like a teenage-time travel mystery reminiscent of Netflix German original “Dark”. Or rather a fusion of “Dark” and “Stranger Things”.

The series is stacked with many fresh faces and is headlined by teenagers. Some of the cast members include Thomas Chomel, Omar Mebrouk, Jules Houplain, Jade Pedri, Naidra Ayadi ans Guillaume Labbé.

The steaming platform would drop all it’s episodes at once and is directed by Benjamin Rocher and Jean-Batiste Saurel. Created by Quoc Dang Tran, who also shares writing credits with Anastasia Heinzl has also produced the series through his banner Daïmôn Films with Raphaël Rocher and Eric Laroche at Empreinte Digitale.

Pauline Dauvin, VP of programming and production acquisitions at the Walt Disney France said ” Parallels, a suspenseful sci-fi adventure series with a touch of comedy, will be one of the first French productions to air on Disney Plus, in France and in all other Disney Plus markets. ”
He also added , ” The sci-fi genre is relatively uncommon in French series, so this new production will be an interesting addition to the shows that are currently available on the service. ”

Now that Disney+ has already ventured into the Sci-Fi space with a French original, it is yet to be seen if they can replicate “Stranger Things” or ” Dark ” success, or much rather replicate their own success in the Korean Drama market. Well..Any fresh sci-fi content is welcome, a time-travel themed limited series is much more than welcome. Let’s wait and watch how far this gamble will pay off for Disney Plus.
