“The Turkish Detective”, an adaptation of Barbara Nadel’s Silver Dagger Award-winning novels (24 novel-series) featuring Detective Inspectors Cetin Ikmen and Mehmet Suleyman has officially been green-lit by Paramount+. The filming of the series is set to begin this month and is slated to debut globally on Paramount+ in 2023.
Set in modern day Istanbul, the show has tapped Haluk Bilginer, Ethan Kai and Yasemin Kay Allen as the major recurring star-cast. The show is produced by Miramax alongside a leading Turkish production company called Ay Yapim, in association with Paramount’s international studio.
Ben Schiffer pens the script and Niels Arden Oplev is attached to direct the eight-episode first season which is based on the novel series. The show follows Inspector Cetin Ikmen (Biligner), his partner Mehmet Suleyman (Kai) and Detective Ayse Farsakoglu (Allen) who goes to various nooks and corners and through several ups and downs to solve crimes. The best part of the story is that each crime is heavily rooted and can trace back to the interesting culture and history of Istanbul.
The investigative thriller will see a worldwide release on Paramount+ and in the markets where Paramount+ is not available, the series will be distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Absolutely can’t wait for more updates regarding the show because the synopsis is a perfect binge-recipe already. Stay Tuned.
