Prominent filmmaker and actor Gautham Menon is well-known for his acting roles in films like FIR, Selfie, Don, and Sita Ramam. He played Major Selvan in the last one. Plus, his upcoming directional projects include Varun’s Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha, Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram, and Silambarasan’s Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. With so much on his plate already, it seems like Menon has bagged a pivotal role in the upcoming Tamil film, Pathu Thala, as well.
Pathu Thala serves as the official remake of the Kannada film, Mufti (2017). This one has Silambarasan in the leading role. Gautham Karthik is also a part of this project. On the other hand, Priya Bhavani Shankar will appear as the female lead. Additionally, Obeli N Krishna has helmed the project.
Krishna confirmed in a recent interview that he has finished filming Simbu’s and Menon’s parts separately. Now, he will commence shooting their combined scenes soon. Various reports have revealed that Menon is playing the baddie in the film. The helmer is yet to shed some light on this rumour. Although, he did reveal that he is thrilled to see both performers together on the big screen.
Gautham Menon last directed one of the segments of the 2021 anthology film, Kutty Story. His second directional, Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein, turned out to be his breakthrough project and a cult classic. Also, he has sat on the director’s chair for Vinnaithaandi Varuvayaa (2010) and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (2016), both of them had Silambarasan in leading roles.
Pathu Thala is the joint production of KE Gnanavelraja and Jayantilal Gada. AR Rahman has composed the film’s score. The upcoming Simbu starrer will hit the theatres on December 14. Stay tuned for more updates.
