Stefan Salvatore of “Vampire Diaries” is all set to play Captain James T. Kirk on the second season of “Star Trek : Strange New Worlds”. Paramount Plus on March 16 posted a first look photo of Paul Wesley as Captain Kirk on Instagram.
The character was first portrayed by William Shatner on “Star Trek: The Original Series” in the 60s, where he reprised the role for three seasons before transitioning to big screen as Kirk in seven Star Trek movies.Later on Chris Pine played the same character on the big screen in three Star Trek films, starting since 2009, the most recent one being the 2016 “Star Trek Beyond.”
The latest spinoff is all set for debut on March 5, and season 2 was renewed back in January, with the production currently being in progress in Toronto.
Executive producer Alex Kurtzman, showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers shared a joint statement-
“Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence and a welcome key addition to the show. Like all of us, he is a life-long Star Trek fan and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role.”Several stars are slated to reprise their roles in the second season- Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock.
The series go back in time to follow Captain Christopher Pike as the helmer of the USS Enterprise before it got handed onto Kirk, and then he makes his way to the top ranks of Starfleet, emerging as the most eminent captain. The series will shed light on the trio in the years before Kirk stepped onto the Enterprise as they delve into unfamiliar and novel worlds around the galaxy.
