Imagine someone invites you to their home. They promise good food, maybe even a party. And you trust them. You head out to their place… and boom, they stab you in the back. Sounds like some cringe crime comedy?
That’s exactly how Prime Video subscribers are feeling right now.
After years of building a loyal audience with the promise of an ad-free, seamless streaming experience, Amazon Prime Video has decided to backpedal, hard. Starting June 17, they’re rolling out ads for all users in India unless you pay an extra ₹129/month for the “ad-free” add-on. That’s right, after paying for Prime, you now need to pay more to watch uninterrupted.
And people aren’t taking it lightly.
Some furious subscribers have already begun cancelling their subscriptions. Even more shocking? Amazon is quietly issuing refunds for the remaining months. If you’ve paid in advance and want out, they’re letting you leave, with your money.
That’s not generosity, it’s damage control.
Because when you change the rules mid-game, people don’t forget. Prime Video’s betrayal feels personal. It’s not about the ₹129. It’s about the broken promise. You told us we were paying for a premium experience. Not to sit through ads like it’s 2006 cable TV.
And now, with this backlash snowballing, the message is loud and clear: If you treat loyal users like numbers, they’ll subtract themselves.
Hey @ModMasterBeast, I feel you! I also cancelled my Prime subscription after the ad issue and got a refund. Their service has been such a letdown. #ShameOnAmazon @amazonIN @PrimeVideoIN
