Disney has dropped the trailer of its upcoming project, Pinocchio. The grand worldwide success of Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book (2016) prompted the studio to deliver live-action versions of its classic animated masterpieces to the audiences. The executives at Disney might have had noble intentions while making this decision. But it sure helped them in getting their hands on immense profits even if those live-action remakes didn’t manage to live up to the expectations. And now, we have Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio with Tom Hanks as Geppetto.
Pinocchio’s newly released trailer has all the elements of a Robert Zemeckis film. And it beautifully displays Tom Hanks as an amiable and kind-hearted puppeteer named Geppetto. Plus, the makers have stuck with Pinocchio’s traditional look instead of making major changes in his appearance. Our protagonist still has a yellow-and-blue hat on his head with an adorable face.
The tale of Pinocchio has surfaced several times since its first appearance in The Adventures of Pinocchio, an Italian novel published in 1883. But it gained global prominence in 1940, thanks to Disney’s animated project based on the fictional character. However, his basic storyline is still intact. Geppetto wishes to bring one of his puppets to life after suffering a long time of loneliness and despair. The Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo) grants his wish. Soon, Pinocchio begins to understand the real world and embarks on an adventure to become a “real boy” instead of a puppet made up of wood and strings only.
Apart from Tom Hanks and Cynthia Erivo, Luke Evans is also a part of Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio. The actor has previously worked for Disney in Beauty and the Beast (2017) with Bill Condon at the helm. The remaining cast consists of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Keegan Michael Kay, Lorraine Bracco, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. It will release on the Disney+ streaming platform on September 8.
